‘India will lead and innovate in AI domain’: Microsoft Asia President Ahmed Mazhari
In his latest blog, the Microsoft executive spoke about India’s contribution to global AI development.

Microsoft is leaving no stones unturned in its pursuit to make AI accessible and equitable. CEO Satya Nadella in his visit to India in February underscored the importance of India in the thriving global developer ecosystem and AI developments. Ahmed Mazhari, President of Microsoft Asia, too shares the same optimism for India. In his latest blog, Mazhari said that he is thrilled by the seismic shift underway in India’s AI landscape.
Mazhari believes that AI stands out as a beacon of transformative power, heralding a new era of innovation and opportunity. “With a diffusion rate faster than any other technology to date, it is imperative to recognise that AI is not just a technological leap but a global opportunity that transcends borders, industries, and cultures,” he wrote in his blog.
In his blog, the Microsoft executive emphasised India’s significant economic and technological growth, projecting its GDP to rise from USD 3.5 trillion to USD 5 trillion in three years, along with over 20 per cent growth in digital technology.

Mazhari highlighted India’s substantial contribution to global AI development, especially with the country’s vast pool of AI talent and innovation, and the extraordinary number of developers contributing to GitHub. This, according to him, will make India a key player in the future of AI. He went on to assert that this growth and innovation underline India’s potential to transform business operations, tackle complex issues, and deliver value through AI.

Microsoft and India’s thriving innovation ecosystem
In the blog, Mazhari went on to list how Microsoft is strategically leveraging its partnership with India’s innovation ecosystem to redefine businesses and enhance social inclusion through AI. The tech giant has integrated its Microsoft Azure OpenAI Service with the initiative to not only transform businesses but also impact daily lives of millions across sectors. While Genpact’s AI Guru is a stand-out transformative tool in professional development offering employees a dynamic learning platform to upskill themselves, Shiksha is a copilot initiative in collaboration with Siskhana Foundation that uses AI to democratise learning.
On the other hand, in the retail sector, Myntra’s AI shopping assistant enhances customer experience by personalising fashion recommendations over conventional search queries. Jugalbandi is an AI-driven chatbot that shows how AI can bridge language barriers allowing access to government services across India. Similarly, Air India’s AI.g is an AI application in aviation customer service that is setting new standards for efficiency. These initiatives listed in the blog showcase Microsoft’s role in using AI to drive innovation, improve inclusivity, and elevate the customer experience across various sectors in India.
“India’s innovative spirit and synergistic endeavours with Microsoft stand as a powerful testament to AI’s capacity to forge a more efficient, inclusive, and innovative global future. We can expect that India will continue to lead and innovate in the AI domain, punching above its weight on the global stage,” Mazhari wrote.
